The Only Door - 08/26/08
“So Jesus said to them again, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you,
I am the door of the sheep.’”
- John 10:7 -
The last 30 hours have been quite interesting. As I have prepared for the upcoming ministry leaders’ luncheon that will be held on Wednesday, August 27th, (in Santa Fe) I have had numerous a unique opportunity to communicate the message of REVIVE Santa Fe to a local Santa Fean reporter. And in this process of interaction of questions, one question in particular stands out. The question from the reporter was simply, “What is the Door of the Sheep?” I love this question because it was sincere and real. The reporter had found this reference I had made of Jesus as the Door of the Sheep on the website and was curious as to its meaning. Therefore, I hope and pray that through my email back to the reporter that I was able to communicate the truth about Jesus:
When Jesus Christ was explaining a parable to His disciples, He referenced Himself as “The Door of the Sheep” (John 10:7). What does this mean? It means that Jesus Christ serves as the entryway for any one person desiring to know God. He is the pathway to God. He is the doorway to God. The bottom line is, because of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, being buried, and being raised back to life on the third day, Jesus Christ serves as the “door” to our eternal state.
I haven’t heard any response from the reporter or how it will be communicated in the local newspaper in Santa Fe, but will you please pray with me that not only is the truth accurately portrayed, but also that the reporter comes to the awareness and understanding of who Jesus is? Lord, please soften the heart of the reporter because one never knows the outcome unless the risk of obedience is taken. – klm
Many will attempt to claim to be the Messiah, yet the truth of the matter is, they come as “thieves and robbers.” (John 10:8) They avoid the way, the truth, and the life. Thankfully, Jesus said that if we believe in Him, we will be saved from being destroyed, and are able to enter into the kingdom of God. He said, “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” (John 10:9)
We believe that in the 21st Century people have created many options and choices to know God. Unfortunately, according to Scripture, aside from belief in Jesus Christ, these paths lead us astray. This is exactly why Jesus came to earth. Serving as the “Door of the Sheep,” Jesus “came that (we) may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).
It is up to each person to decide whether or not they will choose to faithfully believe in the foundation of Jesus Christ. Therefore, when we reference the ‘church’ coming together in Santa Fe, we are asking each church to set aside their differences and personal opinions, and recognize that we are gathering together as a unified body based on the absolute truth that Jesus Christ humbly serves as our Lord and Savior.
PLEASE BE IN PRAYER FOR OUR LUNCHEON AT 12:00 (08/27)
-Pastor Hal Habecker (senior pastor of Dallas Bible Church) will also be making the trip out to Santa Fe with me. Please pray for divine appointments.
